An’sisters & Hillbrow Theatre Empowerment Constellation

The Hillbrow Theatre will be offering 2 days of performances by community performing arts groups on the 8th & 9th of August. This will be a part of the Ansisters Project at Constitution Hill that will run in August 2005. The event will be broken into four parts. An outline below is provided.

Public Participation

8th August, Starting time 12 noon

Constitution Hill to Hillbrow Theatre Walk:
Audience members will participate in an Empowerment Walk of 5 blocks from Constitution Hill to the Hillbrow Theatre on the 9th of August: Woman’s Day.

FACE of An’sisters Memorial Wall:
The public will be encouraged to bring a picture of an an’sister ( a woman from their family who is no longer alive) and place it on the wall outside the Hillbrow Theatre, with a short story about this persons life.

Street Art and Performances:
There will be pavement art and street theatre along the way and the streets will be police protected for the day.

9th August, Starting time 2pm

Hillbrow Theatre Performances:
Public Participants will then attend a number of plays presented by the Hillbrow Community and performing artists on the theme of Ansisters.

There are many participating groups that will be performing.
